A Table Is Prepared

Proverbs 9:1-6

(v.5) Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.

Have you ever tasted rotten food? Before you even put it to your lips, the aroma has such a stench that even a dog will turn up its nose. I remember my sister-in-law getting very sick from food poisoning to the point she thought she was dying. She couldn't even stand upright due to the pain in her stomach. We rushed her to the hospital and after being treated, this poison gradually left her body. Now the food she ate didn't smell bad, and was pleasing to the taste, yet it almost killed her. In contrast, the world's wisdom will do that to us. It will kill our taste to want Spiritual food, while enticing and feeding us garbage on a daily bases. We will be unwise to its cunning ways, and slowly our appetite will long for more, while the spiritual man is staving to death. But wisdom cries out and tells us to feast on her food. She has prepared a table lavished with fruits of righteousness, plates of justice and bowls of understanding. There is no lack when it comes to feeding from her table, for she heaps spoonfuls of wisdom onto our plates. She satisfies our hunger as we eat of her bread and forsake that which is not good for us.

Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you seeking more of the spiritual food you so graciously want to feed me. I want to daily sit at Your table and eat till I'm satisfied. I hunger and thirst for righteousness, wisdom and understanding as I feed upon Your word. Teach me Thy ways that I may grow in the Lord. For it's in His precious name I ask this. Amen.
