Being Wise

Proverbs Chapter 1:1-7

(v.7) The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Are you teachable? Many think because they have reached a certain age, they have arrived. I on the other hand, would like to think I am willing to learn more. I know I haven't arrived, and though I'm not as young as I use to be, learning may be more difficult for someone my age. Although in this verse it says: The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge. I guess that has nothing to do with age or gender. Even the simple (v.4) can be perceptive and learn right from wrong. They can be instructed to make right decisions in life. But fools despise wisdom and instruction. (v.7) This too has nothing to do with age or gender.

A fool will say in his heart, there is no God. (Psalm 53:1) They go about their business with no regard for others or the Lord. They are foolish concerning moral issues and sinful in their judgments.

A wise man on the other hand, will be attentive and increase in his learning and knowledge. He will also seek counsel from those who are grounded Biblically. He will be discreet concerning judgments and issues of life. Seeking God's will daily, he will be wise in the choices he makes, not being swayed by un-Biblical principles.

Through the years of growing as a Christian, I have seen brethren, including myself, make wrong decisions, these bad choices stem usually from not walking close to God. It is in these moments we can be swayed by the Tempter and blinded to his cunning and evil ways. That is why it's so important to continue steadfastly in reading God's word, fellowshipping with other Believers, having a prayer life and taking of the Lord's Supper. (Acts 2:42)

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  (2 Timothy 2:16)

And Why?

That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.  (2 Timothy 2:17)

The Bible is our book of instructions, our book of reproof, our book for learning Biblical doctrine...that we may have a guide to follow on this rugged road through life. In it are words of wisdom, learning to understand God's ways and principles to follow that we may know the fear of the LORD. This means reverence for God and being submissive to His will in our life.

The first step we must take begins when we except Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. This is the step that leads to the cross, a place where God proved His love to you. (John 3:16) A place where Jesus said, "Father forgive them" And a place of spiritual healing. While you're there at the cross, you have a decision to make that will last for eternity. That decision is to either except or reject the offer of eternal life through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. My prayer for you is that your decision will be that of a wise man.
